This device comes with a vague instruction manual. How long is 10.5 comma? The comma appearing where you wouild normally find a foot or inch designation. If you use it with a series of short bursts like fine trimming around a circular base or series of ornamental rocks the line just keeps feeding till it gets so long it fouls upon itself with the two ends twining like caduceus snakes. If you ever need to turn your trimmer off in the coursr of your trimming. This is note a trimmer to be considered. Fairness aside: I did not have this problem with the original string. This problem was with replacement string, but still....
Customer Review: Troy Built string trimmer
The Troy Built string trimmer is a heavy duty product, but the weight may be too much for some people especially if used over an extended period of time. The duel string spool seems unnecessary, and the Troy system of feeding line not with a bump but with a stoppage of the motor wastes much string. It's constantly feeding line every time you pause in your work. The use of oversized line (.80) seems extreme as well. That old .065 line in the garage is now a pitch. For small neighborhood lawns a smaller and lighter product would probably be a better choice.

Customer Review: Light and Powerful
I just bought the 223L to replace a 5 year old, lightly used Echo SRM-210i which froze-up (piston is hung in the cylinder). Wished I had bought the Husqvarna when I bought the Echo. Pros: * Easy to start and stay running. (The Echo would start easy but it would tend to stall (and sometimes quit until it warmed up.) * Very lightweight. * Easy to maneuver - it just glides across the ground. * Powerful - this machine cuts through 1/4" brush with no problems using stock string. Cons: Only has a two year warranty compared to Echo's 5 years. However, the place I bought the Husq (Home Improvement store starting with L) had a 3 extended warranty for $39. The total price of the Husqvarna and the extended warranty was about in line with Echo's compatible model (which has a smaller engine).

Customer Review: Not Bad - Seems Pretty Sturdy
I've used a lower quality wheeled Poulan trimmer VERY extensively for several years. Ended up virtually destroying it through hard use. Purchased the Ariens from Home Depot and found it to be very good quality and apparently much more durable. I am 6' tall and the handle is much too low at longest setting and awkwardly shaped. Other gripe is that this model is difficult to change string because you can not simply tilt the trimmer back onto the handle to raise the string head due to a large head angling handle sticking out at the rear. You have to turn the machine onto its side/wheel. In this orientation, gas and/or oil sometimes (not too often) can leak out. Last gripe is that the cutting height is NOT easily adjustable. You have to get a socket and remove the cutting head, then add or remove bushings, then replace head. Probably a a more durable solution in the long-term though. Otherwise, it's a great functioning machine all things considered. None of the competing models is really any better overall.

Customer Review: Didn't Meet Minimum Needs for a Trimmer
I bought one of these after my long time John Deere (Homelight rebranded) Trimmer had finally given up the ghost. First: I do not have a huge lot nor do I have a lot of heavy grass to contend with. My yard is pretty much the same as most suburban people and it requires a lot of weekly manicuring to keep up. This unit had a lot of difficulty in starting. You should only have to give a unit 3 pulls, with the choke on and properly primed, to start it. Right out of the box, it would start then quit. Start, then quit. Once it finally did warm up the trimmer never seemed to rev up to full speed as if it was starving for fuel. Flipping the trimmer upside down to edge the lawn (something a trimmer must be able to do) would most certainly starve the trimmer and quit. This system has a horrible fuel delivery design and can't even perform the basic needs of a trimmer. The rock guard, or whatever you want to call it, is too small. When trimming, this thing will blow stuff all over you! I don't know why they even put the rock guard on because I got beaten up every time I used it! I gave this thing the benefit of the doubt based on price but after 30 days I just couldn't take it anymore. If it has difficulty starting, can't edge because it starves out for fuel and the rock guard won't protect the operator from flying debris then it just becomes a miserable experience to use. I took it back and got a full refund without any questions.

Customer Review: Don't bother
The separate, shoulder-mounted battery is great, making the hand-held part as light as most plug-in electric trimmers. It seems to have a bit more torque than the cheapo plug-in trimmer I had before, though not enough to consider it professional-grade, by any means. Battery life is enough to edge a very small southern-california postage-stamp-sized yard (maybe a few hundred linear feet of edging). The problem I've encountered is that, while the cutting cord will spin freely when the trimmer is not actively trimming, when I start to trim, the cord is deflected into the top of the safety cover, chopping the cord to a length of about 2 inches -- rendering it too short to cut effectively or to "self-feed" to the proper length by the usual method of tapping the spinning head on the ground. I ended up having to stop every few feet to manually pull out more string. I have found that this problem can be overcome by removing the safety cover entirely, but of course this is highly inadvisable, and I am certainly not suggesting that you do so. If not for the finicky relationship between the cutting cord and the safety cover, I would have rated this trimmer with 5 stars instead of 2. 2-MONTH UPDATE (June, 2009): After a handful of charge/discharce cycles, battery life has decreased to less than a minute. After a full 12 hours of charging, the trimmer will spin fast enough to cut for a few seconds, and then slows to a low RPM that can't cut. This, despite the manual saying the lead-acid battery does not develop a memory. Revise rating to zero stars.

I bought this new. I took it out of the box, assembled it, then started it. But now the trimmer does not spin. Never wored once ! I have taken it to a repair shop and have been waiting 2 weeks. Poulan is a good brand, but this particular package is very disappointing. I thought when I ordered this product the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas-Powered Trimmer/Brush Cutter #PP325 $159.99 that I was getting both the Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer #PP125 $109.99 and the Poulan Pro Brush Cutter Trimmer Attachment #PP4000C $52.50 in one package and saving $2.50 by buying them in a combination package. However this package does not contain the brush cutter trimmer attachment. Instead it only contains the brush cutter blade and head. A second lower shaft assembly with the quick connect is NOT included in this package. So you have to actually take the brush cutter blade and head off with an allen wrench and reassemble it as a string trimmer when you want to change functions. Order the two items separately and you will be much happier with what you get, because you will be able to easily switch attachments using the quick connector. (The prices I listed are the current prices at the time I ordered).

I bought this line for my Stihl weed eater hoping it would be at least as good as Stihl line. It's just as good as Stihl line. It may even be better. I paid $27 for my last roll of Stihl line. Considering the quality and durability, $27 was a real deal. I expect this new line to prove itself to be just as durable. I'm impressed. Rarely do I ever give a product a high mark. My annual income is under $8,000. I'm buying my own place and paying my own bills. I have to ration my food supply to 15 small meals per month. When I buy a product, I have to make a smart choice. Man, oh, man. This string can tear through some grass, weeds, brush, ivy, or whatever you can throw at it. I am using an Echo trimmer and had been using the line provided with the Echo when I bought it. What a difference! My trimmer was eating everything in site and it was even quieter than before. My old Craftsman 2-cycle trimmer gave up the ghost so I decided to go green with an electric. Once I got it going, the old Craftsman used to make short work of the weeds in my garden and behind my house. The string broke about 12 times on the Toro and I had to open up the spool to fish it out. And the garden was only about 1/4 done. I finally threw it down in disgust and gave up. It may be OK for trimming the grass around the edges of your yard, but that's about it.
